Philosophy of Care

We aim to provide a ‘Person Centred’ approach to care. Person Centred means doing things in the way that the person wants, placing them at the centre of the process. Taking into consideration their family and friends and focusing on their ability ‘what is important to the person and the supports needed.’

Sharing the commitment to action and change and not focusing on the disability but rather on their ability. Person Centred Planning does not finish when the plan is written. It begins here, and requires continuous listening, learning and action as the person develops and opportunities unfold.

Facilities

Dolphin Care Ltd has been formed to specifically provide services for adults with Acquired Brain Injuries and associated neurological conditions. We will provide these services under the following definitions of regulated activities by CQC.

  1. Accommodation for people who require nursing or personal care.
  2. Treatment of disease. disorder or injury.

Our service includes the following different service types:

a) Care Home Service with Nursing

We provide care for adults aged 18-65 with acquired brain injury and associated neurological conditions or complex cognitive impairments and/or physical disabilities. This will include active rehabilitation, slow-stream rehabilitation and long term placements. Both the care that people receive and the premises are regulated.

b) Long-Term Conditions Services

We will initially provide these services in South Hampshire for the following reasons.

  1. The need for a specialist facility dedicated to the care of people with Acquired Brain Injury and associated conditions such as epilepsy. There is no specialist facility within Hampshire.
  2. The proximity to the neurological unit at Southampton General Hospital.
  3. The demand from the local Primary Care Trust and local Social Services offices for better, more specialised facilities within county.
  4. Increasing demand for facilities able to cope with service users that have complex health needs and rehabilitative services due to the improved life expectancy as a result of continued medical advances.
  5. Pressure on local NHS health facilities that do not have the capacity to look after service users beyond the initial emergency stage.

Activity Services

Dolphin Care provides individualised care packages for clients with Acquired Brain Injury and associated neurological conditions within an established care pathway.

This can include active rehabilitation, slow stream rehabilitation, or long term care placements.

Our facility at Kingfisher Court has a range of bedrooms which have been designed to cater for clients with differing needs and abilities, including those with additional physical disabilities and complex health needs.

Our range of support programmes can be designed to focus on meeting nursing needs and maintaining a general quality of life, right through to a comprehensive rehabilitation programme, to enable our clients to re-enter a community setting.

Activities are an important way of improving independence and providing stimulation and Dolphin Care provide a variety of these. Our caring staff will assist clients to access and enjoy activities as part of their individual person-centred care.
